Energy from our own power -
100% renewable
100% renewable. CO₂-neutral production.
Thanks to our small hydropower plant (50 kW), photovoltaic systems, solar thermal energy and the intelligent use of waste heat from the Lötschberg base tunnel (operation of the local heating network), our energy is 100% renewable and CO₂-neutral. The use of existing energy (tunnel water) is not only used for fish farming, but also for heating our own and surrounding buildings. We were awarded the Swiss Innovation Prize for this commitment.
Short transport routes due to exclusive production in Frutigen further minimize our carbon footprint - Bergquellfisch Frutigen is good for the environment.

Nothing is lost - thanks to a gentle water cycle.
We consistently think and act sustainably. A central component is our gentle water cycle. The valuable mountain spring water is carefully treated by filtration and used several times for fish farming. This careful use of water as a resource is very important to us. We use fish waste and non-recyclable fish waste to produce biogas, another renewable energy source. 100% of our fish are recycled - from the tender fillets to by-products such as animal feed. In 2024, we will have recycled 99.8% of all materials and waste generated in the company. No microplastics enter our systems or waters - for the safety and health of the environment.
Sustainable feed & maximum animal welfare

The welfare of our fish and the protection of the environment are our focus. Our perch are fed specially developed, sustainable fish feed. This is free from genetically modified organisms (GMO) and soy from non-sustainable sources. Instead of fish oil from wild-caught fish, we use innovative, sustainable algae oil - this conserves the valuable resources of the world's oceans. Our fish are reared in accordance with the highest animal welfare standards. The following labels and certificates confirm our commitment:

Thanks to being reared in the Frutigen mountain region, our fish carry the Berg und Alp label - a sign of regionality.

Our perch are Pro Montagna certified, which promotes value creation in mountain regions and guarantees an authentic product.
WWF recommendation
Swiss perch are classified as recommended by the WWF and listed as green in the fish guide - a good choice for nature.
High animal welfare
We guarantee stress-free rearing in species-appropriate conditions with plenty of space and optimum water quality, which promotes the natural behavior of the fish and strengthens their health in a natural way.
